Overview
Sfiera, later Boomer was the ship the Phfor sent to Tau Ceti to attack the UESC Marathon and the human colony on Tau Ceti IV. It is later captured by Durandal and used to find the S'pht homeworld Lw'owon.
History
Durandal originally alerted the Pfhor about the colony at Tau Ceti,[1] which led to the Sfiera's attack. When the Security Officer and Durandal defeat the Pfhor on Marathon during the first Marathon game, Durandal takes control of the ship to search for a way to escape the end of the universe. This begins a seventeen-year expedition which leads him to Lh'owon, the home system of the S'pht located in the galactic core. While the Security Officer investigates the planet Lh'owon, the Pfhor send Battle Group Seven to destroy Boomer, and the Security Officer is teleported back to the ship to repel the Pfhor boarders. Boomer is said to have taken heavy losses during the battle, but had fared very well against a more powerful Pfhor fleet.
The fate of Boomer after the battle of Lh'owon is uncertain; Durandal later takes the Pfhor battleship Khfiva, the largest ship of Battle Group Seven, as his flagship.[2]
Capabilities
The Boomer is capable of FTL travel. It carries fighters (one of which destroys the Security Officer's shuttle, the Mirata)[3] and a Pfhor cyborg that controls the S'pht enslaved by the Pfhor in the system.[4] It also carries on board low-yield nuclear missiles, which are used to destroy the spaceport on Tau Ceti IV. It has stasis chambers, the capability to create simulacrums, and a crew complement of various enslaved races.
Boomer is variously designated as a scoutship, corvette, or mother ship.
Nomenclature
'Sfiera' was the original name of the ship, named for the Pfhor goddess of lightning and passion. After Durandal captured the ship, the S'pht on board named the ship 'Narhl'Lar', which means "Freedom and Vengeance". Durandal calls it Boomer. [5]
